1945-1954
Grundig was founded in 1945 as a traditional German company. The brand quickly became known thanks to the production of the popular Grundig radio, invented by Max Grundig, who noticed a niche in the market and created his first radio called "Heinzelmann". The radio became a huge success and Grundig was able to open its own factory shortly thereafter.
Soon after, the Grundig TV was made, specially produced for the premiere of the first German TV channel in 1952. At the same time, Grundig also created the first tape recorder.By the mid-1950s, Grundig had become the largest manufacturer of radio receivers in Europe.
1955-1964
Over the next decade, Grundig set new trends in electronics, introducing innovative products with revolutionary technology: portable transistor radio, portable tape recorders, voice recorders and music players with stereo sound.
In 1960, Grundig expanded beyond Germany for the first time, opening a tape recorder factory in Northern Ireland. Another tape recorder factory was opened in Nuremberg in 1962. In the Hi-Fi sector, Grundig introduced modular systems with separate components. Thanks to this innovative solution, customers could create their own Hi-Fi set, adapting it to their individual needs and the style of home furnishing.
1965-1974
In 1965 Grundig set up a second overseas factory in Portugal. By 1966, the company had sold 16.5 million devices worldwide.
In 1967, the first color televisions appeared, to which Grundig responded with an innovative offering of these products. Grundig also introduced a compact cassette recorder to the market, and soon also a car cassette recorder.
In 1969, Grundig produced Europe's first Hi-Fi amplifier with a built-in equalizer, which immediately became a bestseller. The second important event in those years was the introduction of a video recorder for home use and car radio with automatic radio station search.
1975-1984
In 1978, Grundig began producing VCRs at a new factory in Nuremberg. The manufacturer set new trends for home VCRs by introducing double-sided cassettes - making standard VCR and SVC cassettes redundant. Grundig also launched the first color TV projector in Germany, and in 1981 Grundig radio users were able to wake up in the morning thanks to "talking" radio alarms.
In 1982, a new generation of electronic notebooks was introduced to the market. By 1984, Philips had gradually increased its stake in Grundig, and Max Grundig had handed over the management of the company over time.
1985-1994
In 1985 Grundig introduced a new generation of video recorders and also presented a satellite TV receiver for the first time at the International Radio and Television Exhibition.
In 1986, the brand launched the first mass-produced color television with 100 Hz technology. Image flickering has been eliminated and screens have become much larger. The product became a bestseller and the factories could not keep up with the demand.
In December 1989, at the age of 81, the company's founder, Dr. Max G. Grundig. The brand further diversified its product offer by creating a cordless telephone, and then the first pilot DAB receiver.
1995-2004
In 1995-96, Grundig introduced revolutionary products to the market: from a 3D sound system, to televisions with interactive guidance, to the smallest satellite receiver in the world. The Planatron Flat Screen TV could be hung on the wall like a picture, and soon the first Grundig smart TV appeared.
Grundig very quickly saw the great potential of mp3 technology and began to develop it, becoming one of the market leaders. He also bet on the future of multimedia entertainment. In the 21st century, the Grundig brand developed unique products based on revolutionary technologies, masterful picture and sound quality, changing the existing standard of television quality.
2005-TODAY
In 2007, Grundig became part of Arçelik A.Ş., a home appliance manufacturer owned by Koç Holding, a publicly traded holding company of Fortune's 200 largest companies. Arçelik is a Turkish company with 27,000 employees, 14 different production plants in 6 countries and offices in 65 countries. The company's headquarters are in Istanbul.
Grundig is currently one of the leading manufacturers of electronic equipment as well as small and large household appliances. Grundig has thus become the only brand with a full range of consumer electronics in its portfolio. Currently, it focuses on innovation and increasing customer satisfaction with the products used.
