How often should you clean your washing machine?
It is recommended to clean the inside of your washing machine at least once every month. When it is time to clean your machine, here is what you can do:
Take out clean clothes immediately:
Empty the machine as soon as a cycle ends to prevent a musty odor developing in the washing machine.
Clean the machine:
Many newer models have a special washer cleaning cycle. If your machine does not, add 1/2 cup of liquid chlorine bleach to the dispenser and run a normal cycle with hot water.
Wipe and dry the rubber seal:
If your machine is a front-loader, wipe the rubber seal clean and dry thoroughly to prevent mold.
How to Prevent Mildew and Smells in a Washing Machine?
Along with a monthly cleaning, start leaving the machine door open or lifting the lid after each use. By doing this, air gets circulated and will dry out any remaining moisture.
